Sutton up to fifth in royal wedding

Prince William ties knot with Kate Middleton, on Friday 29 April, sparking a wedding fever in the district.

Latest figures show 37 road through the area will be closed to street parties to go ahead with dozens more, to be held in people's homes and gardens.

Top of the heap in London on Tuesday, were Richmond and Newham, who received 64 and 63 applications respectively.

Borough Archivist Kate Shawcross said: "We have some wonderful pictures in our collection of local studies of how people in Sutton noted earlier royal events, such as the coronation of Queen or wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.

"It would be nice to record the memories of people about the wedding of William and Kate, who is sure to be a special day."

The figures put together by the local government association showed that there are 500 Street side will be in London on 29 April, which generates about one event for each 14000.

In Sutton, the figure is closer to one party for every 4,600 residents.
