Sam Hunter is also competing for England, while European uneven bars gold medalist Beth Tweddle will be in Glasgow - but only as a spectator.

"I hope to see if I can do better with my procedure than I at the European Championships [where she fell in the women's all-around final]. It will be nice to see if we can our game a little, we worked hard enough."

BBC Sport understands that the sale of tickets in Glasgow this year's World Cup ahead of previous years, with Whelan added: "Before the World Cup have been very busy There was a lot of waiting, because many of the gymnasts wanted to do it.."

Now, the individual "in the series of events set for the lower-ranked gymnasts.

However, despite being billed as gymnastics' best in the best, the updated World Cup face struggle to attract the top names of each event.

The emergence of Whelan in Glasgow comes as a result of a number of leading gymnasts rejected their offers, for several reasons.

"If people say no or do not want to do this, they continue to move down the line, so I'm pleased to be picked up and get a chance to compete," said Whelan.

"It depends what time of year it is - gymnasts some countries are not ready to fly all the way to America or Americans do not want to fly here for a weekend or so.

"Then you have people who are injured or not at that time in the competition season for them - for example, some have just completed the Europeans, and this is their time of rest, this is not the right time for them to carry on with the procedures in the gym." However, Germany's Elisabeth Seitz - silver medalist in the euro in their country last week - and Venezuela's Jessica Lopez will provide a stern test for Whelan and Pinches.

Purvis, Keatings and Hunter face Philipp Boy likes of Germany, American Jonathan Horton and the French star Cyril Tommasone.

World Cup gives way to the 2011 World Cup in October will be held in Japan, which is double the vital Olympic qualifying.
