St. Louis Rams, stuck in the middle of the NFL draft to edit, add pass rush help by taking North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn on the 14 th pick of the draft in the NFL on Wednesday night.
They are satisfied with an error that kept Quinn off the field last year was out of character. "He furthest thing from a criminal, a bandit, the bad guy," general manager Billy Devaney said. "Nothing like that at all. He made a rookie mistake, stupid mistake of college, and he paid for it."
Quinn was one of three Tar Heels kicked off the team last fall to obtain undue advantage, and he left after his junior year after being declared permanently adopted. Quinn said the NCAA adopted two diamond watches, a pair of earrings appropriate accommodation and travel to Miami for benefits worth $ 5,642, and said that he also lied to investigators during an interview.
Quinn said Baranov not ask too much about it.
"I was upfront with them," said Quinn. "I just told them what had happened. They declared me ineligible, and I had to quit."
And here it comes to improving Rams team.
Quinn 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, excellent prospects for the peak region, and will not be 21 until next month. He had a huge sophomore season with 11 sacks, but without a doubt, was bumped down a few picks.
Quinn also could be considered a little health risk, given that he played with a brain tumor in his senior year in high school. Quinn says he gets checked every six months and Devaney said that the "majority" of the team were comfortable with his condition.
Quinn said that he practiced while in the autumn of last year hoping it would get cleared NCAA.
"It was heartbreaking, but I have to put that behind me," said Quinn. "I took some jewelry from the jewelry and they have learned. I must move on."
Quinn was among about 20 players invited to Rams Park for pre-draft visits and Devaney and Spagnuolo said he made a great impression. It may be a possible successor to 34-year old James Hall bookend Chris Long, the second pick in the 2008 draft.
"Anybody can fool you in 15 minutes, but when you go back and talk to people who were around this guy, he was out of character," Spagnuolo said. "We feel comfortable with him."
Hall led the Rams with 10.5 sacks last season and Long had a career-best 8.5 sacks.
Quinn plays a right end in college and Long blossomed when the Rams stopped moving around him and made him a full timer on the left side. Quinn does not think he'd be too rusty after missing years.
