Madej said inhaling smoke contributes to a deep sleep, to further prevent the person from waking up and escaping.
The campaign is not just local.

"Ohioans can greatly reduce tragic fire deaths and injuries by following the simple task of replacing the batteries smoke detector. By taking the time to replace batteries and test them monthly, you are making a greater effect on the fire safety of your family and home than any other action you can take .
Campaign in connection with the fire of the United States Protection Association (USFA) and the Ohio fire departments.
Cooper said the Ohio fire so far, that smoke detectors are often not in their homes. As of March 1 this year, 28 Ohioans have died in 22 fatal residential fires. Cooper said that smoke detectors were confirmed in the present 10 (45 percent) of these fires and the operation of 1 (5 percent) of the incidents.
