Breaking News Fly Fishing In Yellowstone National Park

The new rules reduce the number and size of trout that can be caught on the Yellowstone river between Yellowstone National Park and Billings should be abolished, a group of 30 fishermen claimed last week.

"It's basically been crammed down our throats," said Stewart Rogeness Billings.

In 2011, fishing regulations, four brown and rainbow trout can be caught on a daily basis with only three under 18 inches and one over 26 inches. All fish between 18 and 26 inches must be released.

In 2010, the rules were the same except that only one fish over 18 inches may be retained.

Since there are several trout over 24 inches in the upper Yellowstone, anglers said the upper limit may also have been set at 40 inches.

Regulation was adopted to increase the distribution of large fish in the river Yellowstone, in accordance with the Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials.

But the fishermen gathered in the FWP office in Billings said they never knew the changes being proposed and called it unnecessary, especially since his own FWP biologists say that there is no biological reason for the change.

Chuck Sauvageau Billings said that the new rules were adopted in the interests of fly fishing gear and out of state customers at the expense of fishermen resident bank.

"I tell you, that special interests will make it catch and release only," he said.

Anglers asked FWP officials, including Commissioner Ron Moody to lift the measures, but he resisted.

"What I did not hear an argument about why it's an emergency," he said. "I can not hear the argument about why we should bust the regular decision-making process."

This change has been advertised FWP in August last year. This obviously got little attention to it, FWP received only two comments.

Gary Hammond, FWP regional manager in Billings, said the incident showed that the fishermen should be more involved, commenting or joining other groups of fish
