The San Jose Sharks scored

It's not as if Logan Couture did not appreciate the recognition that came on Tuesday when he was named one of three finalists for the Calder Trophy, which goes annually to the top rookie NHL.

But after answering two or three questions about joining Jeff Skinner of "Carolina Hurricanes" and Michael Grabner of the New York Islanders in the list, Couture topic shifted to more pressing issues.

"I'm confident that once the season is over, I'll reflect on it," he said, "but now I'm just focused on the playoffs."

Couture just on the ice after the morning skate and talked about the importance of strong performance Sharks after they were drubbed 4-0 on Saturday night at Los Angeles Kings.

"We can go back to it tonight," he said. "We were a good team the way throughout the year. Game 3 is huge, a key role in each series. We need a great effort tonight."

Couture also call it a great honor to be a Calder finalist selected by vote of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

"This year there are a lot of good newcomers in the league," he said, "and being named one of the top three is a great honor for everyone here at the Sharks."

The winner will be announced June 22 in Las Vegas at the annual league awards ceremonies. Couture says he will be his second trip to Mecca, and gambling that his parents are already making arrangements to get there
