Linebacker Dion Bailey, who entered the game on Thursday night as the leading tackler USC, spoke this week to be dissatisfied with his work.
"I'm playing well, but I feel that I did not really help my team as I should," said Bailey. "As a true midfielder, I have to lead the team in pass breakups and interceptions.
"I really need to step my game better nose in football when he is in the air and get my hands on it."
Consider it done.
Redshirt freshman from Lakewood High recovered fumble and took his first two steals in his career as Trojans came up with five turnovers in a victory over California's 9.30 in the AT & T Park. He also led USC with eight tackles, six of them solo.
Bailey's first choice came with 49 seconds left in the second quarter, when he made a leaping capture by Zach Maynard Cal at the end zone to preserve 20-0 lead.
The second interception to create the USC end point - but he did not do nearly as much. Maynard's pass hit him in the chest at Cal nine yards with 5:50 left in the game.
One for the bears
Give Cal a single edge. In the matchup of receivers star sophomore, Keenan Allen had a big advantage over Robert Woods of USC.
Allen career-high 13 catches for 160 yards - his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season and fourth in a row.
Woods, who came to an average of 11 receptions game, was held in low season five catches for 36 yards.
By George
After moving to George Farmer from receiver to tailback during the open week, Trojans wasted no time using the beginner for the first time.
Former Gardena Serra High star was on the field for the opening launch on coverage teams. And he got the ball in the second game of the USC fight.
He did not go real well, however. At first-and-goal six yards in Cal, the farmer took the height and ran to his left, where he was stopped at the loss of four yards.
He finished with four yards in four carries and caught a short pass and turned it into a 14-yard gain.
Brown injured
Freshman cornerback Anthony Brown, who started in place of Torin Harris in the second game in a row, suffered apparent leg injury early in the second quarter. Isaiah M., a junior college transfer, to replace Brown.
Harris has not made a trip to the Bay Area, and not the average linebacker Lamar Dawson, who missed the third game because of an ankle injury.
