American Auther John Steinbeck

JOhn Steinbeck is easily my favorite American writer, along with Mark Twain. My favorite novel is Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath." Once forced to abandon their land Joad family leaves their Oklahoma farm and emigrated to California in search of work and a new home. But their experience, not only on the long journey to California, but once they get there, there are heart disorders.
There are so many compelling elements in this book that apply to women today. Especially the theme of strong women giving their all to preserve the fragile families and the debate about single mothers due Joad family's daughter Rose of Sharon to abandon her husband in California, where she expects her child.
dominant philosophy in this book that, despite the difficulties and hard courts, the family can push through by sticking together. Although the family is poor and homeless, and there is work through the difficulties as a family. It seems particularly timely given the state of the economy and the fact that many American families are now experiencing.
