The murder of governor of Punjab Salman Taseer caused tension for liberal sections of pakistan
Iran is the most near and prime example for liberals in Pakistan to learn from. The situation in Pakistan and Iran is quite different. Before 1979 revolution, Iran had the perfect political, social combination for Mullahs to exploit.Iran was relatively rich country. It had a larger middle class compared to Pakistan, which can be a good or bad thing for extremists’ point of view. Iran’s elite class was far more outspoken, far more shocking for its middle and lower classes. The best that liberals can do in Pakistan is drink alcohol, and that too more or less inside their homes. The situation in Pakistan is very volatile at the moment. There is this sense of injustice on the street especially when it comes to US. This is precisely the kind of opportunity Mullahs were looking for. Through their misguided propaganda they have rallied the masses.
